Jefferson man arrested for murder

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. – Edwin Garcia Alonzo, 36, of Jefferson, Georgia, has been charged with murder in reference to a shooting on August 18.

Jefferson Police requested the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the shooting that left one man dead.

On August 18, Mateo Gomez Lucas was found shot near the intersection of Business Hwy 129 and Storey Lane, in Jefferson.

He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia where he died as a result of his injuries.

Alonzo was taken into custody on Sunday, August 27, 2023, in Hall County.
